FTP access allows users to upload, download, and manage website files without accessing the full Plesk interface. In Plesk, you can create separate FTP accounts and restrict each one to a specific directory, which is useful when working with developers, créateurs, or external collaborators.

This feature is commonly used on environments managed through Plesk hosting where controlled file access is required.

When FTP Accounts Are Useful

FTP accounts are typically created when:

  • A developer needs access to website files only
  • A designer uploads assets without managing the site
  • Temporary access must be granted to a third party

Because FTP users can modify files, access should always be limited to the minimum required directory.

Creating an FTP Account

Étape 1: Open FTP access

Log in to the Plesk control panel.

From the left sidebar, open Websites & Domaines.

Locate the domain and click FTP Access.

Étape 2: Add a new account

Faire un clic Add an FTP Account.

Enter a username for the account.

Choisissez un home directory. This directory defines what the user can access.

Do not use / as the home directory unless full access to the entire website is required. Limiting access to a subdirectory is strongly recommended.

Set a password or use the password generator to create a strong one.

Faire un clic OK to create the account.

Étape 2: Update settings

Change the required fields, such as the password or home directory, then save the changes.

Regular password changes are recommended, especially on active sites hosted on serveurs cloud.

Deleting an FTP Account

Remove FTP accounts that are no longer needed to reduce security risks.

Étape 1: Select accounts to remove

Dans FTP Access, select the checkbox next to one or more accounts.

Étape 2: Confirm removal

Faire un clic Remove and confirm the action. The selected FTP accounts are deleted immediately.

Practical Notes

  • Always restrict FTP users to specific directories
  • Use strong, unique passwords
  • Remove unused accounts promptly

Careful FTP management is especially important on dedicated server environments where file access directly affects production services.
