Oberst Server

This article explains why mailing list subscribers may not receive messages and how to correct the configuration in cPanel so list delivery works as expected.

Scope and prerequisites

This issue applies only to shared hosting and reseller hosting environments. It does not affect managed VPS or dedicated servers. Before continuing, confirm that regular non-mailing list emails are delivered successfully. If other emails are also failing, the problem is likely unrelated to mailing lists.

Mailing list management described here is available on standard cPanel-Hosting Dienstleistungen.

Problem description

Messages sent to a mailing list are accepted by the server, but subscribers do not receive them.

Common cause

Mailing list messages are blocked when the Aus oder Reply-To headers use an external email address from a free provider such as Gmail or Outlook. This pattern is frequently associated with spam, so many mail systems reject or silently drop these messages.

A second common issue occurs when the Reply-To header is set to an individual subscriber address instead of the mailing list address itself.

Required configuration changes

To ensure proper delivery:

  • Der Aus address must use an email address under your own domain.
  • Der Reply-To address should point to the mailing list address, not to individual members.

These settings are adjusted in the mailing list configuration.

Updating mailing list settings in cPanel

  1. Melden Sie sich bei CPanel an.
  2. Öffnen Sie die Tools page.
  3. Im E-Mail Abschnitt, klicken Mailing Lists.
  4. Unter Current Lists, locate the affected list and click Manage.
  5. In General list personality, finden from_is_list and select Munge From.
  6. In Reply-To header munging, set first_strip_reply_to Zu Ja.
  7. In Reply-To header munging, set reply_goes_to_list Zu This list.
  8. Klicken Submit Your Changes.

Der Munge From option replaces the sender address with the mailing list address, which improves acceptance by external mail providers.

After applying the fix

Once these settings are saved, send a test message to the mailing list and confirm delivery to multiple recipients. Changes take effect immediately.
