Getting started with the Plesk File Manager

The Plesk File Manager allows you to manage your website files directly from the control panel without needing FTP or SSH access. It is useful for quick edits, uploads, folder creation, and basic file maintenance.

This guide walks you through the most common tasks so you can confidently manage your website files.

Opening File Manager and browsing files

To access File Manager and navigate through your website files:

1. Log in to the Plesk control panel.
2. Open Websites & Domains.
3. Find the domain you want to manage and click File Manager.

Once File Manager is open, you can browse the file structure:

• Click a folder name to open it.
• Click a file name to view or edit it.
• Use the up-level icon to move to the parent directory.
• Use the tree view on the left to expand or collapse folders.

Creating folders and files

You can create new directories and files directly from File Manager.

Creating a new folder

1. Open File Manager.
2. Click New.
3. Select Create Directory.
4. Enter the folder name.
5. Click OK.

Creating a new file

1. Open File Manager.
2. Click New.
3. Select Create File.
4. Enter the file name.
5. Optionally enable the HTML template option.
6. Click OK.

Copying, moving, renaming, and deleting files

File Manager supports common file operations without downloading files locally.

Copying files

1. Select the file or files.
2. Click Copy.
3. Choose the destination folder.
4. Click OK.

You can overwrite existing files by enabling the replace option.

Moving files

1. Select the file or files.
2. Click Move.
3. Choose the destination folder.
4. Click OK.

Renaming files

1. Click the actions menu next to the file.
2. Select Rename.
3. Enter the new file name.
4. Click OK.

Deleting files

1. Select the file or files.
2. Click Remove.
3. Confirm the deletion.

Tips and best practices

• Always double-check file paths before deleting files.
• Avoid editing core application files unless you know exactly what they do.
• For large uploads or frequent transfers, using FTP may be more efficient.
